How does the Edfund decide which grants to fund?

The board solicits and receives grant applications submitted annually by each school. The Grants Committee reviews the requests, collects information and makes recommendations to the Edfund board for approval. The grants are awarded based on merit to the elementary, middle and high schools in the district.

What types of enrichment is generally funded?

Most recently, Edfund grants support programs and purchase technology over and above current district budgets. Technology purchases have included items such as computer labs, computer stations and laptops, Smart Boards, LCD projectors and digital cameras. Our funding has also provided the latest training opportunities for teachers, supported classroom initiatives, and purchased technology and programs that support individual learning styles. Edfund grants have affected all aspects and levels of the educational experience in our district.

What has the Edfund been able to contribute to our schools and district over the past five years?

The Big Read - This project fosters a year-long study of literature of a particular genre (non-fiction, fables, and historical stories) with each elementary school specializing in one genre for a year then taking up the next genre over a 3 year period. This program includes curriculum development, cultural enrichment activities, book reading and interactive curriculum support. The Big Read combines the use of technology with hard copy books to encourage community reading and discussion of topics and genres.

$15,000 Miles River Middle School Technology to Differentiate Instruction
This grant provides funding for the purchase of 10 computer projectors to enhance classroom instruction. These projectors can be used for projecting websites, short film clips and other technology programs. These portable projectors allow the flexibility for future use as a Smartboard peripheral as needed.

Included is an additional $5,000 grant provided to assist the middle school with technology as needed for the 2009-2010 academic year.

$23,550 HW Regional High School Presenting a Resource Rich Curriculum
The high school was granted funds to purchase and install 5 Smartboards in high school classrooms. The high school has significantly fewer classrooms equipped with Smartboard technology. This grant meets the need to roll out more interactive technology to a cross section of high school academic departments.
